“Since the beginning of time, humans have attempted to record and illustrate the animals that have surrounded them, and some of the earliest artworks depict humanity’s early relationship with the natural world. Artwork that depicts animals documents this changing relationship, but also offers the viewer an insight into how animals have remained an important constant in our lives. I hope to create work that resonates with the viewer, that captures the character of the animals depicted, and that suggest something about humanity’s ever-changing relationship with the creatures that we share our world with. Of my four final paintings, it could be guessed that the last one of the lamb’s carcass will be the one that sticks in people’s minds. This idea of sticking in people’s minds is intentional as it should make the viewer think.”
