“For some, art is visual expression and experimentation with physical material and colour, whilst for others it is a form of emotional, political, societal communication. Successful art should raise questions and different interpretations. I have chosen to explore the theme of distortion because of the endless possibilities of creating a distorted effect and having no boundaries, for example disfiguring facial features, using glass to refract objects and also the use of colour. I believe distortion requires an element of realism so the viewer can recognise a clear contrast between reality and distortion. The theme distortion has allowed me to explore many approaches and techniques which have created visually pleasing compositions from simple objects showing how interactions between everyday objects create something striking and original. I have created artworks that have been sliced, stretched, magnified, ‘glitched’ and refracted, which I hope will entice the viewer to question my work and come up with their own interpretations.”
