An exhibition of current work by former Chenderit School A Level Art students
This virtual exhibition is our celebration of those individuals that made up this year’s A-level cohort.
The work presented documents their projects. Each student selected their own title and pursued this over a period of a year, investigating relevant artists, exploring ideas and creating their own imagery.
As Head of Art and Design at Chenderit School for 34 years, John's inspirational, nurturing teaching style has had profound effects on students and the school's success generally. Surrounded by the extraordinary display of art and design work by alumni of the School, John will share his passion, his philosophy of a broad education and snippets to illustrate his career.
A special event for alumni and the local community. The event will encourage former students to share their memories of Chenderit School with staff and current students.
The exhibition, Forty Years On: A Celebration of Chenderit Art and Design Alumni 1979-2019, commemorates not only the school’s 40th anniversary, but also features the work of former students who have gone on to build careers as artists, architects and illustrators, in advertising, marketing communications and commercial design, and as fashion, jewellery and furniture designers.

Our artist in residence programme finishes this year, when John Childs retires and becomes the very last one. John started at Chenderit with the purpose of creating an outstanding department, based on the belief that an arts education was an essential element of every child's education and that every child could achieve a GCSE pass. His own training was as a painter, a ceramicist and textile printmaker.
