“Although the purpose of art is a highly subjective and widely debated topic, it could be argued that it is a form of communication that does not require words, linking the intentions of the artist with the thoughts of the viewer. Art reflects the world around us. It allows people’s thoughts, emotions or experiences to be recorded and conveyed in ways that may not be able to be fully expressed in other forms. Within this project, I have investigated how reflections can explore different aspects of oneself and the role reflection plays in distorting our own perceptions. The use of reflection in artwork has proven to be a potent form of self-expression and self-awareness that each of us can resonate with through our own reflections. Art continues to reflect the world, but as my own work and that of the artists that I have investigated demonstrates, not everything that is reflected is as it seems.”
